Website History

The Camp Doha Resource for Soldiers, Families, and Supporters first saw its start in 1997 when it served as a way to inform US service members about what they could expect from deployment to Camp Doha, Kuwait, which was the largest US military installation in Kuwait at the time.

During that period, an official Camp Doha website was in the works, but stood idle with the exception of links to the "Desert Voice" magazine. Eventually, the official site was removed and replaced by Army Central Command (ARCENT) Kuwait's website at www.kuwait.army.mil.

Drawing on information from ARCENT-Kuwait, ARCENT-Saudi Arabia, CENTCOM, and a variety of other online and offline resources, along with first-hand information from soldiers and their family members, the online Camp Doha Resource continued to grow and is still growing.

The page saw its biggest changes after the beginning of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and now includes information about deployment to the Middle East as a whole, along with a variety of other useful information for soldiers, military families, and supporters.

In January 2004 the website moved to its new domain and hosting space, which was graciously donated by a formerly deployed service member working at the Fox Technologies Group, Inc. You can find more information about this sponsor further down on the page, in the category of "sponsors".

In April 2006, the site received its first complete makeover since getting the OIF overhaul in 2003. In March 2008, another complete site makeover was completed in hopes that the new design would breathe new life into the site.

Mission Statement

This website strives to compile information useful to US service members deploying to the Middle East, as well as for their families and supporters at home and abroad. We also try to provide ways for supporters to let the members of our armed forces know that they stand behind them and support them all the way.

Submissions

At its very core, this page is a site for soldiers and by soldiers, and we rely on you to help us with information and links that are valuable resources to our fellow troops overseas, as well as for their families and supporters back home. We are always looking for submissions of the following:

Links to other websites that contain information about the Middle East,
Links to family support websites,
Links to personal accounts of deployment to the Middle East

Please do not submit news articles from the CENTCOM or ARCENT websites to us. We do not currently have a news column, largely due to the fact that running such a section would amount to a full-time job. We do not have plans to add such a section in the future, either.

Please do not submit any photographs, graphics, or other images.

Sponsorship

Since 2004, this website has been supported by the Fox Technology Group, Inc., located in Owensboro, Kentucky, and online at www.foxtg.com. They have kindly donated "as much server space and bandwidth" as our website requires. If you are in need of website hosting, please check them out and support them for supporting us!

This website is a not-for-profit page and it is supported solely by nice individuals and businesses who want it to remain available to our service members. If you would like to contribute, we are happy to take monetary donations. All donations will go to the website's upkeep, such as hardware and software repair, Internet service, and the like. Please contact the web team if you'd like to help.

Advertising

We are proud to announce that we are one of the very few websites out there that remain free of any advertising, thanks to our wonderful sponsors and our website host. This allows us to bring you the information you're looking for without any of those annoying blinking banners, pop-up ads, or other useless advertising.

We do not accept any kind of advertising for any services, so please do not contact us to ask how much it would cost to advertise on our website, or whether we could place an advertisement for your business or organization.

Link Exchange

We have always been happy to trade links with websites that support us, and that support the troops. However, all links have to fall within the link categories that are currently in place on our website. If your link falls into one of those categories, please email it to us along with a note about which category you would like it to be placed in.

If your site is a personal or organizational website (other than an official DoD site), please note that you must link us before we will link you

If you would like to use a graphic instead of a plain text link, you may use one of the two different link banners below. Please save them to your own server.
